Three Tiered Covid Alert System Explained
Updated 14th October 2020 - Alert Level Medium
Put very simply, the UK would be split into three tiers depending on the level of restrictions the Government deems necessary - medium, high, very high. This alert system may also be referred to as Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3 which can lead to some confusion. Let us try to explain this in really simple terms as far as Deverell Hall bookings go:
COVID Alert Level - MEDIUM Tier 1
Currently our area of Hampshire (which includes Deverell Hall) is considered to be Medium Tier 1. This means as a community hall we can:
- Continue to operate in a COVID-19 secure manner, other than those that remain closed in law, for example nightclubs;
- Because we do not sell food or drink, then we can operate between 8am to 10pm every day as normal;
- Our local preschool can continue and operate as normal;
- Organised indoor sport and exercise classes can continue to take place, provided the Rule of Six is followed;
- People must not meet in groups larger than 6, or in our case maintain "bubbles of 6" so in otherwords, say 30 people were attending, then they would keep to their own bubble of six, and not mix or socially interact with a separate bubble of 6;
- Generally we can cater for most of our regular hirers and provide their usual booking arrangements.
Tier 1 - is alert level Medium. Examples might include:
(1) a 10pm hospitality curfew, which would normally include pubs, bars and restaurants;
(2) a ban on most gatherings of more than six people (with a need to remain within their bubble of six);
(3) funerals and weddings limited to anywhere between 15 and 30 people.
Tier 2 - is alert level High. This would include all of the Tier 1 examples, PLUS some other restrictions. Examples might include:
(1) indoor mixing of households is not allowed;
(2) two households may be allowed to meet in a private garden, as long as the rule of six and social distancing are followed.
Tier 3 - is alert level Very High. Examples of Tier 3 restrictions would include:
(1) avoiding all non-essential travel and to not travel between areas around the country;
(2) hospitality such as bars, restaurants, clubs and cafes may be shut down, along with shops and some services;
(3) schools and places of worship should be expected to stay open;
(4) gyms, beauty salons and hairdressers might be among types of venues that could be shut down by local authorities;
(5) cross-household socialising will be banned in all settings, including private gardens, except outdoor public places such as parks, where the rule of six will apply.
If Hampshire falls into High or Very High
If Hampshire then were to fall into the levels of "High" or "Very High" then this would of course change which groups were allowed to meet at Deverell Hall. The website links below will take you either to the official Government page which explains more about covid alert levels, and you can view the Secure Guidance for users of Deverell Hall.
